1986: SPAIN IN THE EUROPEAN UNION

Source: El País

On January 1, 1986 Spain and Portugal joined the European Union, at the time known as the EEC, thanks to the signature of the Accession Treaty. Before joining the EU, Spain suffered from outdated industrial and agricultural sectors compared with the Member States of the European Economic Community (EEC).

The Accession Treaty was signed on the 12th of July of 1985. But it wasn't effective until the 1st of January. Since then we have seen many important and positive changes in the welfare of the Spanish society.

  2. I think that the introduction of Spain in the EU was a big step for de development of the country's economy because without the UE's support, most of the everyday's situations wouldn't be posible. I'm very proud of being part of the European Unión and very grateful for all the help and all of the initiatives.
